Light & Airy Living With Designer, Kate Smith Interiors
Meet Kate!
Founder of Kate Smith Interiors, a boutique interior design firm specializing in colorful, classic design with a fresh sensibility. After 10 years of living and working in New York City for some of the biggest names in fashion, Kate pivoted her love of design towards interiors and returned to her roots in her home state of CT. She founded Kate Smith Interiors in 2016 and has since created updated traditional interiors throughout Fairfield and Westchester Counties, extending into Manhattan, Palm Beach, Southern California and beyond. Influenced by her time in the fashion industry, Kate brings a keen eye to every room she touches; focusing on color, texture and print. She pulls inspiration from her colorful childhood in CT, her time in the city and her experiences living and traveling abroad.

Kate's Design Tip:
Opposites Attract!
I love incorporating different colors and textures to bring a room to life. Look for opposites on the color wheel to complement one another and make a space pop. Also, try to incorporate lots of different textures into a space. For example, if I’m using an element like a sleek polished lacquer, I love to offset it by including something very natural with variation, like a grasscloth or jute.

Kate's 3 Favorite Designers:
There are so many amazing interior designers to choose from, I could honestly spend all day gushing about my colleagues and idols within the industry! If I have to narrow it to 3 it would be:
Daniel Romualdez-
I spent 8 years working at Tory Burch, and after living within his designs for so long, no one could have more of an influence on me. My love of his design has seeped in through osmosis. He is an absolute legend and a true talent.
Tilton Fenwick-
They are print mixing masters, and manage to create homes that feel elegant, fun and livable all at the same time! I had the opportunity to meet Anne and Suysel at Fall market, and they were both just as lovely as their designs.
Summer Thornton-
I think great design really elicits an emotional response, and every time I see one of her spaces it stops me in my tracks.
Kate, thank you so much for incorporating SS into your design projects! We absolutely love how this space came out and we think your sweet pup, Abu agrees!
